Welcome to the VAT Practitioners Group
The VAT Practitioners Group (VPG) is a voluntary body which has been established for over thirty years. It is an organisation run by members for members and brings together individuals who work or study in an area of practice or learning with a substantial focus on VAT. Its members are from a diverse range of professional and academic backgrounds, for example:
- industry professionals (from, for example: finance, banking, property, media, manufacturing, retail and charity groups)
- accountants
- tax advisers
- solicitors
- barristers
- students studying for a professional qualification in tax or accounting
- visiting professors and lecturers with an interest in VAT
Members belong to the national body but also individual sub-groups known as Chapters. Chapters meet together once a month to discuss current VAT issues, legal developments and other areas of interest to those practising in the field of VAT. There are Chapters throughout the country and members are encouraged to join their local group. In addition, the VPG has a virtual group (the eChapter) which members can join if they wish to be a member of the VPG but not attached to a local group.
Each Chapter comprises individuals across industry groups and from the professions.
Given the depth of experience and knowledge of its members, there is a lot to share.
The VPG is actively engaged with HM Revenue & Customs and other industry bodies concerning the development of VAT in the UK and the application of policy. In more recent months, the VPG has been actively involved in the review and response process to public consultation documents regarding VAT post-Brexit.
The VPG publishes its technical responses to consultations and other submissions made on behalf of industry and the profession in the members section of the VPG website.
Members receive weekly bulletins, which provide comprehensive information relating to changes in VAT law and interpretation. Additionally, members can take advantage of discounted rates to attend the annual VPG Conference that is widely acknowledged to be the premier indirect taxation conference of the year.
Members also have access to the online VPG Forum where members can post questions and answers on all things VAT – sharing the great bank of knowledge and experience within the group.
Overall, the VPG provides excellent opportunities for building relationships with other VAT colleagues, networking and ongoing knowledge development (including important CPD points/merits).
Please contact us if you would like to consider becoming a member of the VPG. If you would like to join a local chapter, then please contact the chairman for your nearest chapter and they will arrange for you to attend a meeting to see what it’s all about. (Please refer to the Chapter sections of this website). Otherwise, please complete the application form and the VPG Administrator will contact you to discuss membership options, requirements for membership and the best chapter for you to join.
